I got a Shape-O about 4 months ago when I held a Tupperware party, it was the only thing I really really wanted but I do think it is quite expensive for what it is and not sure I'd have paid for one (it was one of the items I got free with the sales from my party).

In saying that, we held onto it for DS for Christmas and he LOVES it! He can't open it yet obviously but love to put the shapes in (with help if course ) and it's very sturdy, I wouldn't think it breaks easily and DS does like to throw it around!

the point of drilling the hole is incase your child has as genius a brainwave as my older brother and tries to swallow the triangle shape (or any of them).
the hole being drilled in it lets air flow through it still while you figure out how to get it out of their mouth.

I would so do a playskool one that you open the lid easily, from memory I think I still struggle opening the shape-o. When they're new its such a stiff thing to pull.

I used to sell tupperware!
We have a Shape-O, and yes they are awesome, but personally (and I can't believe I'm saying this because I am a big tupperware fan) I wouldn't get one. They are so hard to open for kids!! My DD couldn't do it easily until she was about 2, and she is a very bright child that picks things up quickly.

Maybe, if you thread string through the hole it would enable you could then yank the shape out of the childs mouth .. obviously you would need to attach a string to each shape .. and then I guess they might become a strangling hazard ...not sure how you would overcome that.

Yep you can still get them.

We have one where I work but I personally like the cheaper ones only because the tupperware one is really hard for small children to open as you have to pull a cord bit with a handle at each end and children find this quite hard to master. Where as the other brands have the easy pull open lid.

Yep, the choking hazard wasn't the main shape-o, it was the mini one that was a rattle.

I don't think drilling a hole in a shape would do much to lessen a choking hazard

DD got one about 1 year ago.

I dont know why it would be a chocking hazard. Im pretty sure i saw them in the book a few months ago around $50 something dollars.

I love them! So worth the price. DD does hers several times a day. Its a good way to teach shapes too

They were still around 3 years ago when I got one for Hannah. We had them as kids, too.
There was a Tupperware stall in our local Mall - $40. but come with a lifetime guarantee.
And the bits are so huge even I couldn't choke on them
