The girls have gone straight into single beds. Amber has fallen out a couple of times - usually when she comes back from her dads as they are still in cots there. But a quick cuddle and back in bed and she's happy as larry. We would put her straight into single bed which we have already (if it wasn't in storage) but at this stage we will convert her cot to a toddler bed. Either way she would be fine as she climbs up and down of our bed anyway although that will change once we have our proper bed as its alot higher, so will see about putting a step in which I did in our room when she was too little to get on our bed. (We co sleep on occasion)

Only problem is that in DD's room is a double bed, which she is just as likely to climb on to sleep

ETA if her cot didn't convert then I wouldn't bother with buying a toddler bed, an expense thats not needed

Good suggestions - I need to start thinking about a bed for the lil man too. He moves around so much though so I might need to rethink where the bed is. Nat went straight into a king single bed (we already had it) One thing to think about if you're putting the mattress straight on the floor is that going into winter, it may get quite cold/damp as there is no circulation underneath the mattress, like there would be in a bed off the floor. It may not be an issue in your house, but it would have been for us. DD went into a hand-me-down single bed at 16 months due to shocking sleeping habits in the cot. She had no problem getting in and out of the bed and I put the cot mattress on the floor to protect her if she fell out. She hasn't fallen out of bed so far!

We bought her a new flash king single bed in January this year which cost a blimmin fortune but figure it will see her through till her teens now. We used a single bed but just took the legs off. So it was the height of a toddler bed. She went into it at 14 months and she was in it till the end of last year. So about a year.

She will still sleep in it now if for some reason all her queen sized sheets are dirty (she may have wet the bed or something like that) and she turned 3 in Jan (and she's tall too!)

We had a toddler bed .. that way when she fell out she could get back in herself. It was also her cot mattress, so it smelled familiar to her while she was getting used to being in a bed.

She went straight into a Queen sized bed that we already had from the toddler bed, so we didnt want to go and buy a single bed .. the toddler bed worked out cheaper.

Elias will now use the toddler bed before he goes into a bigger bed since we have it anyway. We can just put hhis cot mattress in it.

We went straight into a single bed too. My father in law made a frame that fitted a single mattress in it. So quite close to the floor. He put the frame on caster wheels, so it's easy to move around. And when she's a big girl he'll make her a taller single bed that will fit over the top of the other bed.

I'm teaching DD to climb down from things, not sure when we'll be moving her yet but will start by taking the side off her cot first - although she only has her day sleeps in her cot now... Ds's cot is the same height as my bed coz we sidecar but even my PN said I should use a mattress on the floor at first.

I wouldn't bother with a toddler bed either, single beds are lower and closer to the floor than the cot is.

I would go straight for a single bed too. We got a king single mattress and base for DD just after she turned one. We put pillows on the floor for the first week then sh was fine.

It's def worth looking at a decent bed so it will last them a lot longer.

DP is of the opinion that it's a waste of money too so we're going straight for a single bed. Yip agree with the others, straight into a single bed here. DD couldn't climb on either (although she was 2) so I just put a little stool next to the bed. I agree with Kebakat. We just put our boy into a single bed striaght away. I think it is a waste of your time too to get a toddler bed as then when he grows out of that you then have to transition them into the big bed. The less steps the better.

DS has never slept in his cot with all sides on. We co-sleep/sidecar at the mo but he's just taking up SO much room now I'm thinking of moving him to his own bed. So who has a toddler bed? Is it good? Or sould I just get a single? He can't climb off beds yet so I'd say he'll need matteress on the floor for awhile but yeah, is a toddler bed a good idea?
