I agree about bamboo not being very strong - I've had clothes made from bamboo and it's definitely not that durable - but these are a combined bamboo/cotton fleece and I worked out that I'd used one of the nappies about 25 times when the bald patches starting getting really bad and holes started appearing. That's more than $1 per wear which is just pathetic.

I've sent it back for her to have a look at it and I'm hoping she'll just replace it as a bad batch of fabric. But like you say Mealz, there's still the postage to be paid, and not having as many nappies as you planned to have. I know exactly what you mean! And it makes you feel like you're being unreasonable when really the product should last at least one child if not more. AND then there's the hassle of return postage and time without nappies etc.
Check out the itti bitti Australia FB page..there is definitely some talk on there about problems with the inserts...

she said it was (i didnt believe her!) i tried to tell her how I wash/how often/etc but she just told me the same thing over again. she didnt say anything about a bad batch whnen I sent the last lot back?
also the leg elastic has started to go on a couple of mine, so Im sending them back with hte next lot of broken inserts...
eta I hate sending them back, it makes me feel like ive done something wrong (which im pretty sure I havnt!)

Emmi - is it definitely from teething? I've just sent back a whole lot of itti inserts that were getting holes in them...even ones that hadn't been used yet. They've replaced them which was a relief as I'd totally followed all the washing instructions and hadn't done any strip washes or anything. About 60-70% of my ittis have crapped out due to 'teething ammonia', even tho DD didnt have any teeth till 3 months after the first one did it! I rinse them anyway (always ahve) before putting them in the bucket and washing every other day (sometimes every day). I used ecostore liquid, but have switched to soapnuts since the beginning of the year (and its still happening)

I found some of my bamboo nappies quite crap too. It is not a very strong fabric if it's not blended with cotton. My peapods bamboo liners tore in the wash and some other bamboo ones I had got little holes or the fabric just came apart. only a little bit in the bottom, just because it seems to stop them smelling so much and makes it easier to clean the bucket. It probably dosn't make that much difference...

It was recommended by itti bitti to rinse nappies that were very wet when I knew DD was teething (not all the time, just when teething) rather than have them sitting around waiting for a wash.

Do you have water in the nappy bucket Lisame? Most recommendations I've seen say to dry-pail them (ie. no water in the bucket).

I'm not sure where Amolin is made actually - it never occurred to me that it might be imported! but rockin green isn't made in NZ. I struggle to justify using something made in the US and shipped here instead of something made in NZ by a really good sustainable NZ company.

Just a thought - it won't help the holes already there, but if it is the teething pee, you could try rinsing the nappies straight after changing before you put it into the bucket/nappy bag. Then they won't be sitting around in strong pee while waiting to be washed.

If you want to try a different washing liquid, I find Amolin really good. It can be to do with teething pee? Something about it becomes more alkaline maybe? I can't remember, but I had some of my bitti d'lish bamboo inserts disintegrate and the distributor said it was likely to be teething pee (but she did replace them).

Hi all
I've got quite a few fitted nappies made from a bamboo/hemp fleecy fabric, various brands.
I've noticed on two of them that they are developing 'bald patches' and one even has a hole. I wash them on a cotton 40 cycle in a front loader, with ecostore liquid, and they're line dried. The bald patches and hole is definitely NOT anything to do with line drying - they're in the wrong place. They probably get used and washed every 3-4 days.
I've never stripped them or soaked them in napisan or anything similar.
Has anybody else had any problems with this fabric? Maybe just a bad batch? I'm hoping it's not that bamboo/hemp is just not very durable bx they're so great otherwise, absorbent and soft and not too bulky.
TIA. I'm asking the manufacturer as well obv.
