They are big seats and do take up a lot of room - I can't fit a 45 degree reclined seat anywhere except the middle in our station wagon.. it fits between the two front seats....

My new one arrived today - have to try fitting too side by side, newborn recline in the middle (have done some research and it should be fine for a newborn if installed correctly at 45 degrees) and then try get an upright install (more difficult) behind the passenger seat!

Yep - no latch in our cat either ;-)

It's the LATCH strap on some seats...apparently it doesn't hold tightly in some cases, can be loosened by a toddlers foot therefore making the seat installation unsafe. SKJP are working on the problem according to their site. I would suggest finding somewhere that sells the Radian or contacting someone who already has one and trying it in your car before purchasing.

We were planning to purchase them for our twins, we have a large 4wd vehicle and they weren't suitable due to the space they require while in the rear facing position. I was so suprised because I would class our vehicle as 'large' so assumed any car seat would fit easily.

My son didnt slump in his radian.... for a newborn it has to be AT 45 degrees, the manual that comes with it is poorly worded and could easily be misunderstood.

Interesting that they slump, I've used a Safe n Sound from birth & never had slumping problems.

Have you also read that there is an issue with some clip on the Radian seat? When I put DD in hers at about 4 1/2 months she seemed to slump down and be all squished. I didnt use the head cushion as it pushed her head out which your not supposed to do. I waited till about 6 months when she could sit up by herself and she didnt slump. Its hard to design a seat that goes from birth right through as they change so much. For my next bubs I will use a capsule again as its so much easier IMO. The Radian was designed by a mum that needed to fit 3 wide in her car. Google radian and have a look at the pictures, you will see lots with them 3 wide in the car. I think they are one of the narrowist seats you can get. Be aware that the Radians are narrower at the bottom but not at the top. Our #3 is due in Nov and our other 2 are a year old that each of yours so we are in a similar situation. Our car is narrow and we can probably get a better combo of 1 Radian and our existing booster plus capsule. I think a good indication of just how great they are is that they were all sold out by 9.30 this morning! Several people I know bought a second or third one in that sale.

But don't worry, they'll be on sale again in the next few months - hopefully before October

I don't think they are too low to see out, but that might depend on your car. We have a mazda 3 and it's fine.

I've heard the covers do come off, but it's a bit fiddly. I've not tried though

ETA. You can buy the covers separately, so they MUST come off!

Hi all,

Am wanting to take advantage of the baby universe special to get a radian car seat, but as I have never seen one wanted a bit of reassurance from people who have them.

I have a 15 mth old, a two year old (nearly three) and another bub due in Oct and basically need to fit three seats across the back of my car. I have a safe n sound convertible seat and a maxi rider. The maxi rider is massive though and I think I might have to get rid of it to fit three across.

What do you think of the radians? My concerns are:
1)that they are low and DDs won't be able to see out
2)can you get the covers off?
