Yep I really cant sing their praises enough to be honest. I've just put yesterdays lot in the machine and I know they'll all be washed and dried in an hour! Yay, I just noticed this thread. I used real nappies fot the first 3/4 months then switched to pockets. I loved them. I just topped up my stash for number 2 so that I can have one in cloth full time. So a little update!
I've been using Real Nappies for 2 weeks now and my goodness they're brilliant! We use them overnight as well and havent had a leak :D Lily wears hers as the tri-fold boy fold because shes crawling and sleeps on her tum, and yea. Excellent! We are real nappy users here too! LOVE them. We have been using them since DS was a newborn - he is now 15 months. We haven't had any problems with the wraps, leaks. They are really fast drying and you can reuse the cover for next time if it isn't dirty.

I don't think I change DS any more often than another baby in a different nappy. I have used them overnight but with a booster. We don't use them now as DS is a heavy wetter but am wanting to get him back into night time use.

I also don't think they add any more bulk than any other cloth nappy.

Good luck, I find the world of cloth nappies daunting! oh was going to say though that i prefer my prefolds with a snappi. You can pick up 5 packs of pocket nappies from trade me for $50 or under. You get two microfibre inserts (sometimes one). That is a nappy for $10. I once got five for $28! missangel i am selling all my old nappies.... if you check trade me you can also pick up some bargains. its a much better way than paying full price.

I just won a real nappy test pack from an OB comp, which was nice. Just tried for the first time and it wasn't too bad but the cover seems a slightly odd shape for my girl and it seemed to get very wet quickly.

I was lucky to get given a lot of fitted nappies and have only bought couple extra but I know what you mean about $.

Another cheap option would just be standard flat nappies (trademe?) with a couple of decent overwraps (ie bummis) and maybe fleece liners. I actually got myself a small pack of real nappies at the supermarket this morning for $27 (2 covers and 6 prefolds) so I can try them to see how they work for us. I CANNOT afford the pockets - when I can get the Real Nappies for this cheap (i'll go back and get a couple more packs so we have enough) I just cant justify spending $20+ per flash one! the baby factory have a few other brands of cloth nappies - as well as real nappies i think - so if you can get in there and have a look it might help.

They use a prefold system. I personally think they are only useful as a NB nappy. I would go with a pocket type or an all in one/snap in one type. If you pop into the nappyholics thread you will find some usefull info, also look through the cloth nappy section for other helpful threads

I use Pop-in originals with night boosters overnight. They are a pricey nappy however they last all night. During the day I use Itti Bitti AIO/SIO's and they last up to a few hours, depending on how much DD pee's.

I would start with 12 and then work your way up from there. I can only go on my experience, which wasnt good.

I didnt like that the wet stayed right next to DD's bum (no "stay dry" layer) I know this could be remedied with a fleece liner...

They werent very absorbant unless you really bulked them up (so looked stupid on a NB) but thats to be expected for cotton

The wraps dug into DD's thighs and waist something silly and left red marks. Not nice

Sorry if this has been posted already by someone else!

Husband is keen on getting Lily on cloth now - so expensive with 2 in sposies (Thomas cant wear them because he's at pre-school 5 days a week and they dont do cloth), so we're looking at the Real Nappies brand (it's on special on trademe).
What i want to know is, have any of you used them? Are they good? How much more do I need to change baby in a cloth nappy and do they last overnight or do I have to spend more on boosters etc. Oh and do they leak a lot?
From the look of them they use the tri-fold system instead of folding it like an old flat. Would that be as effective?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
