It's hard but you have to do it, each one of us is probably feeling the same as each other.

    Author: escadachic
Subject: 39206
Posted: 17 May 2011 at 6:14pm

I do go to the school and home association morning teas once a month, but all those mums children are in a different block to my Sophie.

I have just started her at Brownies today and at least 1 other child goes to her school.

I did used to go to PIN groups, with some mums from her school, but the PIN groups keep dissolving.

I find it does make a little harder when you are a newcomer to the school and have changed school, mid through the first year. A lot of bounds are created when children transition from Kindy to school I reckon and at least when they start school together.

I tried to avoid changing schools for this reason, but once I stopped working over Wadestown way, I found it impractical to keep going all the way over there, plus DP's job became non-existent due to recession over that way. I'll keep at it though.

I think DD finds it hard to make lasting friendships within her classroom, as she's slightly special needs. So kids want to take care of her, more then be-friend her. And all the other parents have their kids in after school care, except 2. But I will keep trying.

Kids don't really have that true concept until much older.

I joined a play group at school & meet like minded Mum's through there. You might find those groups that stick together are all on the PTA or what ever your school calls it.

I wouldn't say I've gained friendships with the Mums at school, although I've become friendly/acquainted with the Mums in her class, this is more to do with when she is invited to parties.

I'm also not bothered, if they're not warm and welcoming then I'm not interested in being their friend. Just smile & say hello as you walk past

    Author: escadachic
Subject: 39206
Posted: 17 May 2011 at 1:17am

Right, so I live in a really well-off suburb. But we are at the cheap as hell end. As in 3 bedrooms, $300pw. Pretty damn cheap!

And my DD goes to school in this very well-off suburb.

The hard thing is, she thinks, because the majority of kids at her school, have it all and are well-off, that we must be too and expects so much of us and we just can't provide it.

I sure she thinks money grows on trees, but what child doesn't?!

Also, at times, some kids can be mean, cause she's not got all the flash gears and such. But mostly they are ok.

How do I deal with this difference in incomes and help her understand, we are not rich like so many of her school mates?

I must admit, I find it hard too, being rather poor and being at school around all these well-off parents. I feel kind of stink. Though I really do try and find common ground with them and attempt to talk with them. But I find, they tend to stick with who they know, so that makes it hard for me to gains friendships with mums at her school.

Anyone else in a similar situation?
