But other then that she has what we have. I know when shes eaten enoguh because she starts throwing the rest over her high chair haha!! I love her joining us for a roast pork!
I didn't make my own purees (naughty I know) apart from apples! but the tinned stuff was so much easier for me when I was working etc. And at the start one little tin/jar lasted 2-3 meals!

I kept his 'meals' small and let him sorta guide when he was ready for more. At 6 months I started introducing finger food and he took to it like a duck in water but still liked his routine mashy dinner. At around 8 months he decided he was too cool for mash and wanted finger food only so we went with that. He completely skipped the chunky mash stage cos he hated it. Then at like 11 months he started letting me feed him again so we mix fed again, but it was different obviously. I fed him breakfast only usualy. Even now, at 14 months he likes me to feed him his weetbix. He can eat with a spoon himself and quite happily feeds himself every other meal.

The way I see it, we still did BLW. Cos to me, we couldn't have got much more baby led if we tried..

I wasn't too keen on BLW full-time, so technically, according to the book we didn't really do BLW at all, we just fed him a mixture of purees and finger-foods. It worked out he had about half of each, and that worked great for us. If you're keen on going the whole hog with BLW, you could just swap over at six months - but I do wonder if a hungry little (big!) boy like Max would miss the solids he'd been getting through puree, since they don't tend to get all that much down them when they first start BLW? I guess you could give it a shot and if he's crying with hunger do a mixture of both?

Once you've proved he's fine with it, try a new one. Author: Plushie
Subject: 39509
Posted: 10 June 2011 at 12:47pm

So despite best intentions to wait til 6 months + and do BLW seems DS is ready NOW so at the grand old age of 4m1w i offered some purees. Plunket Karitane said he'd take maybe half a teaspoon and would build up to having more but he must have had 3 tablespoons PLUS - and i wasnt forcing it. He was open mouthed lunging for spoon and spat almost none out - he only got grubby because i let him hold the spoon!

He's just settled for a sleep for the first time in over a week without screaming and has sleep for longer then half an hour for the first time in over a fortnight - HOORAH!

Anyway, because i was heartset on BLW i have oodles of knowledge about that but none regarding purees - so help? I did a google but there is SO much info out there i got a bit lost and i don't wish to call plunketline as i've already had a barney with them today (shame!)

So you give one flavour for a few days then try a new flavour repeat? Does that mean you're offering two flavours after a few days or do you just switch to a new one?

I was told only give vege as they'll learn to prefer fruit tastes is that true? He started on pear and will have some vege next time around but should i be aware of this fruit preference?

How long does he stay on the stage 1 jars for?

ETA: I have heard (and believe) that solids make no difference to sleeping so perhaps its all a coincidence...but a happy, timely coincidence!

Edited by Bowie
