I just did a hot wash plus soak with RG yesterday and I can still smell pee on some of my AIO's. Not happy that FIL took them out of the dryer before they were properly dry though and I didn't find them until this morning, so there probably lies the problem! but DP has white singlets that dont look so white anymore, they have a yellow tint now.

I've done strip washes with both rockin green and dishwash liquid and I by far prefer the washing liquid method, it is more time intensive but IMO does a far better job. I do it the same way as Emmi suggested

hi,
and thanks for the replies..
so i tried the diswashing liquid ( i used Morning fresh sensitive as i was bit worries about the diswash liquid being bit harsh on skin etc esp. as my daugher has bad eczema) and i was really please with the result.
no smell and think the build up is gone too so back to good absorbancy again.
thanks so much for the idea!!! i think i stick with it, works better (at least for me) then vinegar/baking soda and dont have to buy RG or other extra products.

Just been buying a whole lot of 2nd hand nappies - another 9! So I can finally get "in" to cloth. Got some RG sample packs to do a strip wash on all of them first.... verrrryyyy exciting. Still going to go part time on cloth until I get the hang of what I need when (and even then I will probably still have a sposie as a back up!) So scary... I use 1/4 of a cup on a hot wash and then rinse till there are no more bubbles (I only have stripped the inners not the outers, if you wanted to strip the shells I wouldnt use a hot wash)

um im not sure as I have never done it. Hopefully Emmi will see this and say. how much dishwashing liquid do you use...?
i tried vinegar/baking soda to strip my nappies and i dont think it was that great after 2 uses i they were smelly again.
hope that dishwash liquid would work better.

You dont need rocking green for a strip. the whole point of stripping your nappies is to get rid of a build up of detergents and if your nappies are new they shouldnt need stripping. You can buy sample packs for about $3 which will do two strip washes.

Otherwise yes you can use other products. You can do a wash with white vinegar and baking soda, however this is not a good option for natural fibres like hemp or bamboo.
