Just thought I'd add today's experience to this thread .

Took DS swimming and as last week, he did a poo!!! Last week he was swimming with his dad and I was watching so saw my wee boy (2 years old) while he was at it and was able to take him out of the water straight away and clean him up (twice!).

Anyway, today it was just me and at the end of the lesson (he was in the water for about 40 minutes) he had done a poo again. This is a regular feature and as has been mentioned before, it's not pretty, but what was great was that it had all been contained in the swim nappy!!!! I didn't find out until we were about to have a shower.

My wee boy has been in various swim nappies (both disposable & cloth) and I was never able to find the perfect one. Unfortunately in the past the toddler area has had to be closed due to him having an 'accident'.

The perfect swim nappy for me is the TotsBots Swimnappy. You put it on like a nappy (velcro closures) but it's made with the same material as togs and has another layer of fabric inside it (Cotton terry – catches any accidental poos). And I was always told it was a good idea to put a woolen bodysuit on as it keeps them warmer than a rash suit. Which is designed to keep the heat out. The plus about cloth swim nappies is you can wash and re-use them until your kid stops crapping in pools.

ETA: LostAmber, Max has a full rashsuit thingy, swim instructer said its best as it gives you something to hold onto + the cold factor. Its a full body one though as i heard that rash tops ride up and you spend the whole time tugging it down again.

when were were at 2nd swimming class the only lady whom had a cloth swin nappy on her baby was so embarrased as her daughter pooped and it floated out and the whole pool had to be emptied and cleaned and no lessons for us! I was so embarrased for her, and annoyed since we had driven 1hour to get their.

we always used a huggies swim nappy with a cloth over the top to be extra sure this didnt happen to us.

anyway cant remeber the brand but they had gussets and domes and then a kinda tie thing at the front too. cost her like $30

Thanks for the suggestions. I think something that has snaps/velcro would be more appealing for her as she isn't used to any sort of cloth nappies, so I would imagine it to be less intimidating!! Love it as well and looks very cute. Have tried of different other brands (all with velco) and have found this one the best.

I got mine from Nature Baby, they never have the sizes on the website but normally have them in the shop - not that it helps you down in Hamy. They also don't go bigger than XL I see and I can tell you that they're kidding themselves if they think that a 14kg child could fit in the XL (Kiara's almost outgrown hers and she's not quite 12kg).

Thanks Jaune, good to know. I was going to try a couple of large CB pocket nappies too because she's one snap from out growing her medium fuzzi's (I use them for daycare because they're foolproof). So I'll order them together.

LA I'm the same as Jaune. A rashy top or suit just keeps them a little warmer. Do you put a rash shirt or anything on their top half when you take them swimming as babies? I have only used huggies swimmers when i've taken liv, but that has only been twice in her life time. I am thinking of enrolling her into swimming classes now though, just as a morning activity for us, and would go with cloth swimmers.

I don't like the sound of a #2 in the pull up ones though! I'm not sure, thesaff...the medium fits DS well with a bit of room and he's got pretty chunky thighs (he's about 77cm and 11kg). They only have a drawstring waist so if the legs are too big there is no way of reducing them. Maybe go for the medium and return it if it's too small (or save it for the next baby)? Erk, we've had some brown surprises after swimming and if it's in the pull ups it's AWEFUL (trust me, they're not solid after a half hour sloshing around in there). But it's not that often so not sure it's that big an issue. I like the imse vimse ones (pull up one leg with snaps around the other) but they're sized so you don't use them for as long as those ones with the velcro. I just hate velcro for what it does to other things in the wash if someone (ie boyfriend) does the washing without attaching the tabs properly.

Jaune, I've been looking at the Charlie Banana ones. My gal is 80cm tall and somewhere between 11.5-12kg. I have a monkey doodlez for DS, it is super cute.
He's been in the same swim nappy since he was 6 months.
It is a pull up one, but suprisingly so far we haven't contended with any surprises in the nappy when swimming. I like my Charlie Banana swim nappy...I got the construction print and we get comments on it when we go swimming. Only thing is, it's a pull-up type nappy which could be tricky if there was ever anything in there! DS is about 11kg and tall with very chubby thighs and he's in a medium (and he's also 1yr in October). I got it from Tweedle.

I quite like the look of the bummis ones...the nemo one is cute. They're a velcro one but I don't have any experience with them. Hi,

I have finally thought of a gift for my best friends baby's 1st b'day. He has everything, but a swim nappy is something he doesn't. I haven't tried anything on my girls personally yet, but want to get a pretty groovy one that his mum will actually use (she isn't a cloth mumma but I am sure she will use a swim one).

Any ideas of brands? And sizes?
He will be one in October and so will be used lots over the summer. He is quite chubby around the legs. I would imagine he would fit a large itti (comparing him with my daughter) if that helps with the sizing that I might need.
