Hi all, I just had the jabs done this morning. They were very painful and he cried alot each time but after each one the nurse blew bubbles and he jumped around popping them. I gave him his comfort toy and his dummy too (only normally allowed for sleep) so he was comforted by those. He impressed me by not making a fuss about having to have two more after the first one. It was horrid having to hold him still, and I didn't do a great job of it as he is so strong but we got through it together. Milk afterwards was also very soothing to him. We had DS get the 2 leg ones together ie two nurses at once then it was over and done with before he knew it, he probably only cried for about 20 secs then we went back 2 weeks later and got the MMR in the arm done-no problems at all he hadn't remembered from last time so made no fuss till he felt the needle then it was about the same cried for 20 secs then happy to wave bye bye to the nurse and give her a cheeky grin.

DD got hers done at 15 months, but they did them all really quickly so that it was over and done with sooner. I'm sure you could ask for them to do that if you think it would be better. I'd have hated to have waited between jabs!

I also cheated and got DH to come along to hold her. He got her in a decent restraint with her legs and arms exposed and the nurses got all the jabs lined up and away they went.

She was still BF so a quick (like 20 second) BF afterwards and life was great again. My second boy had his a little late too and was not very concerned by them. He was rather excited about the bribe I had offered and the sticker or stamp he got from the nurse. They were definitely not as bad as I thought they would be. Do use bribery and lots of praise about how proud you are of them.
And it is all forgotten in no time...

Yesterday I did MMR with my 2 year old. She's not a big un, but I'm very pregnant so it was a mission! They show you how to hold them and distraction is useful. I said she was having special medicine and could have yogurht covered raisins afterwards, which helped heaps. One minute afterwards she stopped crying and was bouncing around the Doctors office showing off the stickers they gave her. There's been no swelling either, but we only had the one done, so other 15 month one might be more painful?

We delayed the 15 month imms & we got them done in three separate sittings. I thought DD was going to be hysterical after the 1st injection but she cried briefly and then didn't even flinch for the other two injections. It's a mission, i must admit. Especially since they usually wait for them to stop crying/fussing after each so you feel like a right monster subjecting them to 2 more. I'm pretty sure you can ask to have them spaced out but we just got them all over and done with in one go. The nurses will know how to deal with it. 4 yr old ones are one in the leg and arm. I hid Daniel's eyes with my hand and the first one was fine and she just showed me how to hold him for the 2nd and I had a reward planned out for him. I was gonna take him to maccas. Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had to vaccinate their toddler? We have delayed the 15 month vaccinations for various reasons that I won't go in to but Now I find out there are 3 injections and all are painful. Once my son has experienced the first I can't see him sitting still for 2 more! He's a strong lad physically and very determined when he sets his mind to something... and who can blame him with a painful needle coming towards him. Any tips from anyone on how to get all 3 needles done?? This must be the reason they normally do it when they're 15 months!!
