I never had a capsule and can't say I missed it. We had a capsual (maxi cosi) and base plus adaptors for the pram. The set up was a bit steep but DS still fits it at 8 months and occasionally I still use the snap and go option. When he was a new born though it was a wonderful thing, he did his longest sleeps in the capsule on the stroller - so DH and I used to get some much needed out of the house time with it.

The other thing was we only had one car until recently and fitting the capsule to other peoples cars was really easy. I even took it on the bus once so that I could meet a friend and then go somewhere in her car

Totally loved the convience of the capsule. So easy to click off base and into the shops etc, esp through those colder months too, you can pop a blanket over the capsule going in and out with out bubs being out etc. We hired ours then just bought next size up. Wasnt going to get wheels but went back and got them...loved those too-just so easy when bubs falls asleep-would hire all again too.

So, after some research we have decided to put baby straight into the Radian and not bother with a capsule.
Apparently there is no safety criteria for hiring out of capsules, so although the companies can check the seat over visually, they can't tell if it has been in an accident previously or been mistreated. The other thing to look at with convertible carseats is what the rear facing weight limit is and the height limit. It may say up to 50lbs, butight only rear face to 15lbs or something, and generally children outgrow their seats in height before they reach the weight limits.

We didn't have a capsule with DS and I meant his sleep was continuously interrupted when we stopped the car and I could never transfer him from the carseat to the carrier without him fully waking up and getting really upset.

I loved our capsule too and will definitely use it for future children. DS was also a heavy and long baby so he outgrew it relatively quickly, but it was still good to have. Loved having him in it (rather than those dirty trolley seats) when I did the grocery shopping.

We had a capsule for DS, I loved it and thought it was fab not having to wake him when I went out. He was a big baby though so not only was it super heavy to carry around but he grew out of it after a few months anyway.

For DD I didn't bother with it, it was easier just to take her in and out of the car and she would usually sleep through the transition anyway.

Well we're only wanting one child so no point buying a capsule but we willbuy a carseat as you use them for quite a long time.

Thank you for all your advice. It's many mixed opinions but I do like the convenience of a capsule by the sound of it.

Only used carseats here. The seat we got RF til 12kgs and could be used up to 18kgs.

i found alot of the convertibles 0-18kg not tall enuf in the back for Miss tall 3 and sold the P&T seat we had and got her a Cosco Scenareo

I have used capsule & snap wheels for all 3, youngest is 2wks and this time I got a safety 1st designer seat and safety 1st clik it wheels on hire brand new from plunket for $80 for a year for both. BARGAIN.

It depends is it your only child?

I find with 3 in carseats to click in & out its easier to use the click realise off the capsule base and onto wheels than unbuckling carseat and rebuckling baby into pram. And I often do jobs up town etc when others at kindy/school and then its quickest with bub. Iwent straight to the carseat both times. I have a stretchy wrap for the baby that I wear and just pop bub ina and out. No need to retie it each time or anything. Mine often wake the second the cart stops and are much more likely to go back to sleep on me than anywhere else. I used a capsule with both of mine but TBH I only used it with a 2nd because I had it already. I hated carrying the capsule around and would much rather take the baby out and put them in a wrap.

I don't know much about the carseat you mentioned but only thing to check is the weight limit for rear facing- ideally you want something that is only to let you rear face until they are around 2

I'v got a capsule but will only use it for the first few months, till bubs is a bit bigger and I'll pop it into a convertable seat (Radian is at the top of my list) only because the capsule has been loaned to us, so its costing nothing.

My younger sister has 2 girls & said the other day should she do her time again she wouldn't bother with the capsule. Kids get used to being transferred between carseta-pram-inside (which is what I'll do as I didnt get the capsule attachment for the P&T pram, though I do have a cocoon which will be handy) - despite what some people tell you

I would totally recommend a capsule - I loved it in the early days. We were always out and about and she would fall asleep in the car and we'd just take her inside and she'd sleep in her capsule for a while (yes, you shouldn't leave them in there for ages, but its fine for going out for lunch etc etch). They're also great for popping into the supermarkets/shops and you can just put the capsule in the trolley. I did buy mine and DD is nearly 9 months and would still fit in it for a few more months (she's a wee thing) - but in hindsight I prob would've just hired one as they're so cheap to hire. If you do end up getting one i'd sugggest getting the base too as that makes it even cheaper.

I've been deadset on hiring a capsule and snap and go wheels for our baby due in March but am starting to rethink on the idea with the capsule hire:

Do we really need a capsule? I think we could save a bit of money buying a Carseat that adapts from infants through to toddler and older even and using the Phil and Ted sport buggy that we've been given in the flat position for wheeling baby around or use the sling.

Any thoughts about carseats vs. capsules for infants and what's best?

Also I've seen a Carseat I like on Babycity. It's the "Safety 1st Aplha Omega Elite - Beaumont" and it's good from infant age through to 50lbs of weight. Any thoughts or recommendations on this one? It seems to have heaps of features and for $380 it should last quite some time unless we have a really heavy child :)
