Ours has been up for one day, so far so good! I have a 3 year old, a 12 month old, and a cat. They have all pulled the tree over at least once (we have a fake one for this reason!). They all love to play with the decorations.
they are getting better at being gentle (except the cat), but I figure that they are getting so much enjoyment out if it, there is no damage being done, so I am not too worried. In a year or two it won't be an issue.

Guest_66521 same here, one of my most favourite parts of Christmas is wrapping the presents but not being able to put them under the tree kills me haha so I haven't even started wrapping yet.

Oh well, seeing DS's face on Christmas morning seeing all those presents suddenly there will be awesome, so it's worth the wait

We put ours up on the sideboard. He cant reach it from the ground. He does climb up on the sofa and bat at the ornaments. We just tell him they are for looking only and hes happy with that. Hes 18mths old. However we usually would have the presents under the tree by now but not this year they wont come out till xmas eve. Ours is up on the fireplace, playpen/fireguard around it. Ours is up with a playpen fence round it. Jacob can reach the bottom (the fence is more to keep him from pulling it over) and I've just left that bit free of ornaments. My nephew was freaked out by the feeling of tinsel so we put that round the tree to keep him away when he was little When my daughter was a toddler I put our tree in a playpen but last year she only touched a couple of things then lost interest. We put ours up about a week ago
DS helped me, It was a huge novelty to start with but now he doesnt even really touch it. Like MrsEmma, I just reiterated to him to be gentle which seems to have stuck.

we have always put one up. Last year both kids pulled it down once and then after that they just liked to play with the decorations.

For me it wouldn't feel like Christmas without the tree up....so I say go for it

I was worried about ours with DS who is 22 months, I am a bit of a Christmas freak and couldn't not have a tree but am also very pedantic about the decorations lol. But we put it up last Sunday and so far *touch wood* he stands and looks at it and touches the decorations but that's about it. He's pulled the odd one off but it's been a certain type that he likes which are stars and he sings twinkle twinkle while touching them and walking around with one in particular - I can't help but smile about it If he is near it though I do reiterate 'gentle touching'

I put mine up tonight and he's already pulling things off but I didn't put it up last year so wanted to make an effort for his first Xmas he will enjoy.
