I just took the side off Alex's bed a week ago. Apart from taking ages to get him to sleep now as he just hops out of bed and plays, no problems. I just shut him in his room and when he's ready to sleep he hops into bed himself. Has fallen out twice ,once never even woke up, dont have anything down to break his fall and no problems at all. Tried it last night and was unsettled night probably didn't help I was in to her quickly incase she fell out - think the side will go back on tomorrow for a few more months yet. Till she's big enough to get in and out herself without any trouble.

DD was cosleeping in our bed for about 10 months when we finally stopped and moved her into her own room with her cot converted to a toddler bed. She was about 19/20 months old. No issues with her falling out as I never protected her from anything... She knew how to get up and down from our bed (much higher) and she is very sure footed.

If you are worried maybe make a safe landing for her? I've taken the side off tonight had to put her into her sleepsack its such a big sleep cue for her that she wasn't interested in settling until I did. I was worried about the sleeping bag too so have just taken him out of it while it's warm. I have DS in a sleep sack in his bed, we moved him to a 3/4bed at about 15 months. I like it as he doesn't actually get out of bed with it on, he just sits up and calls for me when he wakes. Also, he has started to move around a bit in his sleep nowadays and I often get up in the night to check him and he is completely out of his blankets. Not so bad at 10pm, but can be a bit chilly at 3am.

This is my thoughts too DD doesn't like her sleep sack any way and with the weather being warm now would be a good time to have sheets and blankets.

We changed DD's cot in to her toddler bed at about 18months I think.
