Harry our DS who 2 and a bit is very rough with the other kiddies but like your DD its more of an affection thing.

Anyway what daycare suggested they would do so we could do at home to is "hit and sit". Basically saying as soon as they are being too rough say "hit and sit" pick them up and put them away from the person they are being rough with and walk away (ignore them).

And then when they are being nice like giving cuddles or playing gentle, make sure you praise them. Oh nice Harry (thats my DS, nice hands harry thats really nice of you.

Hope that makes sense :D

    Author: SophieD
Subject: 41402
Posted: 24 January 2012 at 8:53am

Hi there

A question for you experienced toddler mummies! My 15mth old dd can play really rough with other children. She is not being mean or nasty more that she smothers them with love! She likes to sit on them, roll them over etc which they don't necessarily like. She is quite a big girl so she can over power most of the boys her age lol

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do with her, we are saying to be gentle and she used to know what that was but she seems to have forgotten (even with the cat who she used to be really gentle with) and most of the time distraction will work provided you keep her distracted and away from her current target.

Any other ideas or is it something that we just have to get thru?

Thanks!
