Eat big kid food not milk from a bottle,...run, jump, play, sing, go to the toilet etc etc

But did you know there's lots of things big boys can do that babies can't? Like riding bikes, eating treats, etc etc. So sometimes we can pretend you're a little baby if you like, it can be fun. I'm glad you're my big boy though"

And when he's acting like a baby I'd go over the top with "gushing" over him like a baby (though do repeat, oh are you pretending you're a baby?! come here my baby!). Hold him, rock him, sing to him, give him kisses all over and stroke his head lol. Then once he's finished, tell him you're glad he's back to your big boy.

It's a phase and it *will* pass!

    Author: mummymonster
Subject: 41861
Posted: 08 April 2012 at 8:09pm

I'm not sure if I have a problem with this or not. I'm sure it's not uncommon and I'd like to hear what other mums have done with faced with this.

I've got an almost 3yr old, and an almost 1yr old. DS1 is acting like a baby to get my attention.

Like, I'm giving DS2 his bottle, DS1 wants milk (which I give him in a sippy cup).
DS2 gets off me, DS1 climbs on me with his milk and says 'i'm your baby' and lies across me like DS2 was.
DS2 rolls on the floor making ga-ga noises, DS1 rolls on the floor making ga-ga noises.
DS2 points and grunts about something he wants, DS1 who can talk wonderfully (for a 2yr old) starts pointing and grunting.

You get the picture.

Then there is the 'pick me up' but only when I'm holding DS2. And if I give DS2 to DH, surprise suprise, DS1 wants DH to hold him instead.

I'm a bit inconsistent with my response. If it's milk and hugs he usually gets them. If he's trying to push DS2 directly out of a spot, I say no.

Remind me - this too is a phase and it will pass.

eta - I hope

Edited by IsaacsMum
