However a friend the other day (who is a paediatric physiotherapist) saw that DD is walking bowlegged (she has been walking a month or so). She suggested that I keep an eye on her, and if I had any concerns to get her hips checked out. She said that while cloth nappies don't cause a problem per se, they can exacerbate any incipient problems. So if I feel worried about her development I will get her checked, but it won;t be just because she walks bow legged!

I had a few comments when my daughter was starting to walk that she had the 'cowboy' bowed legs because of her cloth nappies. What really made no sense was that many of these comments came from women my mum's age who would only ever have used cloth nappies.

And that's all you need to remember - over a certain age, we all grew up in cloth nappies.

They may well be right that your son sits differently when in sposies; but I don't see what that has to do with longterm posture or development nor should it be a reason for you to give up your cloth nappies if that's what you've decided to use. Tell them that when he does learn to walk he'll benefit from having the soft squishy crash landing pad. ;-)

or find a new daycare.

ETA: she is now 19 months and runs around like mad with no lingering sign whatsoever of the 'cowboy' posture - which I've seen since on many many toddlers that wear sposies.

Edited by lisame
