Author: Mama P
Subject: 43243
Posted: 22 August 2014 at 9:14am

I am the proud Mum of a 2 year old and my husband and I are trying for number 2.
I have got to the point where I am getting upset with friends that are pregnant. I am super happy for them but in the same token I really want to have another baby and am getting a bit sad about the situation.
Last night I was supposed to catch up with some friends for dinner. All 3 of them are pregnant. I stopped to check the map and then I realized I was crying and the reason I was crying is that I had realized the majority of the conversation would have been about babies and pregnancy. I text making a lame excuse and came back home crying!!!!!
My husband and I started trying for number 2 in August last year, however if I am honest I was not ready for another one and we hardly had sex to even conceive, I just kept making excuses. It got to the end of the year and I realized this was happening and I started charting my cycle. It is insane still after having our daughter. We had a month off trying in Feb because we had changed our eating considerably and I wanted to loose some weight. Then in April I had the MMR booster and I had to have another month off trying because I had that.
So... really my husband and I have not been trying for another baby for long but I think because I have been thinking about it for a year now I feel like there is something wrong with me. All these people around me are getting pregnant easy as (outsider looking in I know) and I keep thinking there is something wrong with me even though I know we have not given it a good go.
And now I keep putting pressure on the situation worrying that soon my sister will be starting to try for number 2 and I am sure my sister in law will be trying in the next 6 months as well. I don't know how I will take it if both of them get pregnant before me.
Anyway, if you have read all of this you deserve a medal. I realized last night that I am sad about the situation and I don't have anyone to talk to about it because all of my friends are either pregnant, get pregnant first time trying, don't want another one yet or have had more children.
I am feeling really alone at the moment when it comes to this.

Edited by Bali-belle - 22 August 2014 at 9:14am

When she was TTC all of a sudden her clock-work cycle became a bit more sporadic. She thinks it was because she was actually thinking about it and anticipating it, so while she didn't feel stressed the thinking about it was enough to cause it to be late.

I'm finding this month really frustrating. According to my temperature I didn't ovulate this month. (It did rise a bit, but then fell then rose again, then fell etc) I know it is normal to have some months without ovulation, but now I just want my period to arrive so we can start a new cycle that actually has ovulation!

Then I have to get my cycle back in sync then we'll go for an IVF cycle ...so July I guess :)

Fingers crossed for you and IUI ...I hope you get that bfp :) I'll be watching for your good news

Gutted for you, but at least you know what you need to do now instead of wasting anymore time. When will you be doing your first round of IVF??

AFM, I had my 2nd IUI on Saturday. Clinically everything went perfectly - potentially 3 eggs released, 9 million of DPs best sperm (lol!) and timing perfect. If we don't get our BFP this time, we have to take a break. No more money and we can't afford IVF We have just bought a house, so all our savings went into that. IVF will have to wait another year if it comes to that...

How is everyone else??

I didn't really feel like I was TTC because we went through a six-month period of diagnosing/testing etc. You may remember from my earlier post that I have PCOS and a prolactinoma (benign brain tumour).

I've been on my meds (metformin for PCOS and cabergoline for tumour) for nearly three months now. Have had some great news over the last couple of weeks.

Tested my prolactin levels last week and they were normal (180, normal is 100-500, I was previously at 1100) - yay!

And I did an ov test on Day 21 and that was "possible ov" - yay! (previously I'd always got "No ov")

And my cycle had been getting longer and longer over the last year (had got up to 45 days) but this month it was back to my previous 'normal' of 28. YAY

So now I feel like a 'normal' 35yo TTC! I have some OPKs so will start using them. I feel so excited that I'm now ovulating... even though it doesn't mean that I will get pregnant, it just means that I CAN get pregnant, which is just awesomeness!

I hope everyone else is doing well.

Anyway, my uterus and ovaries all looked OK and my left fallopian tube flushed well, it took a bit to flush the right one as it was slightly stuck down, so now its nice and open :-) Still feeling a bit crampy today but not too bad. I have a blood test on Thursday to check hormones. I think they are looking to see whether a follicle is developing but there was a big one on my left ovary, so looks like I'll ovulate OK this month. I don't know how they're going to run it yet. I do know my meds are Gonal-F which is the injection and there's a good chance they'll get more than one egg so we both had to sign off on being okay with multiples. I'd imagine that means there's a lot of bloods and scans to check things. No idea! haha I think the start of my next cycle will be 26th. I've got to see the GP next week so I'm going to get her to run Day 21 bloods - the only blood test that hasn't been done through this ordeal. I just want to get progesterone etc. checked after noticing the 8DPO spotting. CD1 for me too...I'm starting Meds (gonal-f) and IUI end of May - too much on at work for IUI straight into this cycle, plus there's new tests that both me and hubby have to get done, to be able to start, so I decided end of May worked. 23 May I go in to learn injections. I actually noticed this cycle - at about 8DPO that spotting starts though doesn't come down IYKWIM (checking cervix only -sorry TMI) for me and continues right through till AF. I wonder if that means anything, or nothing. I thought there was a glimmer of hope when I saw that at 8DPO then it just turned into the usual spotting CM by 11DPO ...gah! I have to see the GP to get updated smear - standard smear isn't enough for FA they check other things - so might ask her when I'm there..... Anyway...best of luck and hope you had a great holiday.

Great to hear you're having a good break. I got my letter for the Laparoscopy and the scan for the tubes (they're doing the works at once so they can fix anything they find). It says 'up to 5 months' which isn't too long a wait. Our specialist suggested IUI is pointless until that's done but I'm happy knowing that things can be fixed at the same time, and in the meantime we'll keep trying. Our specialist just keeps in touch by phone and we'll keep trucking along till I get the call up. Hubby in the meantime booked us a holiday at Vomo Island in Fiji (google it...OMG! Paradise!) so that was a nice surprise. He works 4 days a week out of Auckland - though has my chart dates to be home around crucial times - of course one long cycle like last and that's all out the window. I also have to work out of Sydney a few weeks over the next couple of months, so I'll take the toddler with me and probably take my mum for babysitting duty - I'm sure she won't complain haha. Hubby will meet us there. I realised the other day - I have a crazy busy life. Full time job, part time hobby business. Solo parenting. No Sleep. Decaf coffee. I'm running on reserves I think haha. No rest for the wicked.
Charting wise, no temps (goes out the window with toddler waking times when its just me), OPK's or anything this time around so no idea if I'm in the TWW. If I'm not, it would be the longest cycle ever LOL.

Have fun on holidays!

Anyone tried changing diets, SMEP or other methods to try for a specific gender? Will be happy with either of course but since it will be my last thought it wouldn't hurt to try.

    Author: JuniorO
Subject: 43243
Posted: 14 March 2014 at 3:30pm

Hey ladies... I came on here a few months ago but haven't revisited. So I thought I'd share my story...

- started TTC in April 2013, didn't think we'd have any problems ... from a family of six kids with 16 nieces/nephews already so no fertility problems in the family!
- in July, at GP for folic acid prescription and she suggested doing 'the usual TTC tests' (didn't even know these existed)
- had to test for ovulation on Day 21 and was gob-smacked when I found out I wasn't actually ovulating (at this point, had only been a few months so wasn't worried at all).
- six months of numerous testing - blood tests galore, ultrasound, dye into ovaries, MRIs etc. and I now have my diagnosis: PCOS and a prolactinoma

PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome)
Diagnosed through ultrasound and irregular menstruation
Problems: can prevent ovulation (and therefore pregnancy)
Treatment: about to start taking daily Metformin tablets

Prolactinoma
This one blew me away! One of the blood tests revealed I had high prolactin levels and it turns out I have a benign (non-cancerous) 7mm tumour on my pituitary gland in my brain. Yep, a brain tumour! Who knew that when I innocently went in for a folic acid prescription all those months ago, that it would turn out I have a brain tumour! This is stopping me ovulating.
Treatment: tonight I start Cabergoline - I have to take it for two years and then re-test to see how my tumour is. My Endocrinologist hopes that I will begin ovulating again in 2-12 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Anyway... I consider myself extremely lucky.
- Lucky that my GP was so unbelievably onto it that she sent me for tests after just a couple of months trying
- Lucky that under a year after we started TTC, we have a diagnosis and treatment plan
- Lucky that we have a public health system that is surprisingly good (MRI was within one week of referral, Endocrinologist appt was a 4wk wait but I rang to see about a private appt and it was going to be a 12wk wait!)
- Lucky that I have had an amazing GP, Fertility Doctor (Fertility Plus) and Endocrinologist who have all been fantastic to deal with.
- Lucky that I know why I'm not ovulating and it can be treated!

At the beginning of my TTC journey, I could not possibly have conceived this journey!

Anyway, just thought I'd share with people as it may help someone else... :)

Not much going on with me except my period this month wasn't even a period really - just brown blood for 4 days (sorry TMI). Anyone else had that? I'm thinking its the clomid...I have also been feeling really yuck and getting migraines which I think is the meds. Good news is we have our first FA appointment in 2 weeks! We both have a raft of blood tests to get done before hand and then I guess we find out what the next step is going to be. So glad to be moving forward, whatever the outcome is. Just want some answers at this point! Hope everyone else is going alright. Just waiting for ov here...

Lower our stress levels and exercise.
I'm taking Femaprin and blackmores pre concieve and fertility tea and he will take fish oil and Vitamenz or maybe just Vitamenz. On the days where there's no sign of being fertile its just an empty circle. It said to start testing CD8 which for me was too early given I know I OV around CD14-16 but I guess their instructions consider the person using them doesn't know about OPK/OV You just test once a day, first thing in the morning. Once you get the solid smiley the device is locked for two days - so you can't retest, and it resets for your next cycle after that :) The test monitors estrogen and the LH so you get to see the cycle build up for popping the egg :)
