IVF is one of those scary ideas that you never think you will need but then when someone says the words it gets scary! We still need more tests to see if there is even any sperm to use so we may end up the donor sperm road instead. Again thanks everyone and all the best with your journeys :)

I have had two failed IVF, I did get the ER (Egg Retrieval) however all they found was cumulus cells, I suppose that part was the hardest. We thought after ten years that IVF was the answer to it all but that was not meant to be, I would be prepared for the downfalls fertility treatment. The medication was OK I felt like I was going through the menopause at one stage (strictly speaking I was) but I handled that well. As for time off we are in Nelson and had treatment in ChCh so I took time off to coincide with ER etc. Anyway ask away I am only to happy to answer anything for you and hope I can help

As for work I was on school hols but had it been term time I probably would've had 2-3 days off during egg collection but only because I was in a bit of discomfort and wasn't allowed to do much. We live MILES from anywhere that does scans ( like 2hrs) so I probably would've had to take the day off for those too ( I had 2 scans). I only had one blood test.

And yep you just have to endure waiting....as we always are in this game.

    Author: SweetConception
Subject: 43856
Posted: 04 February 2014 at 7:56pm

Hi Batmobile,

I might not be the best person to answer your questions but didn't want to read and run.

I've done a couple of cycles of IVF that got cancelled before getting to retrieval (no/poor response) and a cycle of IVM that we retrieved 22 eggs from but unfortunately none survived.

Physically I've found everything pretty easy. I have diabetes so injections have pretty much been a non-issue. I don't think they hurt at all! And I haven't really had any major side effects from the meds (in saying that I didn't "respond" so the lack of side effects may be related to that).

Re. time off work I'm lucky enough to be in a job where I manage my own time so I was able to schedule work/fertility appt around each other as much as possible. But when you are in the thick of things "planned" fertility dates can change with very little notice so I did end up canceling a few work commitments. In general you are usually needed for scans etc every couple of days over a couple of weeks.

To be honest the hardest thing is the waiting! Waiting for the next appointment, the next cycle to start, the next treatment plan, the next scan/test/result, etc.

Hope this info helps - let me know if you have any specific questions

I'm an over thinker and like to know everything so I was wondering if people would like to share what it has been like getting fertility treatment. Like how has it been physically? How much time have you had to take off work? How much do things hurt? Anything you wish you had known before starting your journey? I'm a wee but scared about all the things we might have to do! I pulled a face when the gp wanted to do swabs and I'm a big enough wimp about blood tests.
Thanks so much for anything you can share :)
