Ours was only $99 - and is a Jolly Jumper one from Farmers and it is just brilliant, easy to put up and down, wheels go great on it even outside. Comes with a mosquito net too - which is great just to keep all the bugs and insects away.

Oh yes I forgot to mention that the cheapies are really big if you have to pack them in your car along with everything else. We've also got a Phil & Ted's T2. We got a brand new one with a Basinette fitting off Trademe (through a importer/seller) for $80. It was really good and we used it heaps as we were always out and about or visiting people around the country. we have a kingston one, just plain portacot, it came with a carry bag and folds down nicely, we bought an extra portacot matress to go with it.

We have a phil and teds t2, more expensive yes.. but brilliant. (when you get used to the look of it). it weighs under 2.5kg and folds into a bag the size of a sport shoe carrier. Love love love it! I have a hand me down very old one, but still works fine. We have hardly used it when we've been away, but is great as a playpen/safe place for bub to play - Daniel used to put it up in the shed on the weekends so he could still work on his cars but Hannah was out with him too. We have used a portacot about um... 6 times between the girls I think. So we just borrow from friends, since we have two sets of friends with portacots its never been a problem.

I'm not sure (if I were you) if I would buy in advance if you have people you can borrow off the first time or two. We didn't buy one with a basinette fitting and change table, but it was certainly good the times we did use it. You can still get those ones at very steep discounts at the likes of Baby Factory for around $100.

Guess it depends on how much you think you're likely to use it. We had a Mothers Choice cheapie from KMart, bought it for $120 and sold it for $85 on TM a year later.

Mum has a more expensive one in Aussie with the bassinette fitting which we used for Maya when we were there and the bassinette fitting was great when she was smaller so I didn't get backache putting her in and out. I have NO idea which one to get...it will only be a stay over / sleep time, when we go away or at grandparents etc..not an everyday bed!
