I'd say thats the way to go Deb - you can get Bummis wraps at www.snazzipants.co.nz Around $17-$20. Not sure if they have microfleece liners but you can easily buy some from spotlight and cut them up. Anna, I love bummis whisper wraps and folded flats. I found the prefold that came with the real nappies good, but a little bulky. I find the folded flat gives you a "trim" bum that fits more like a 'sposie under clothes, as alot of clothes for bubbas just aren't cut for big nappies bums...

Flats are really good for using inside covers!! I am using these for Kaia, folded up into thirds twice (does that make ANY sense?) and put inside a cover (bummis super whisper wraps is FANTASTIC!!)... Bummis are excellent wraps, check out www.realnappies.co.nz

Peapdos are great, I have some in every size possible and use for both babes. I have a couple of fuzzis too, I find them really good but would rather spend $20 on a peapod than $35 on the fuzzis. I have a couple of mommy's touch which are a one size fits all but I find they work better on Quinn than Kaia at the moment, maybe she is just a smidge on the small side. And i have a couple of cheek boutique nappies too, also one size fits all and also good!!

And Nikki, if you were gonna ditch the bamboo I'd been keen for a try!! Deb - I still use old fashioned cloth flats as inserts for overnight combined with a microfibre insert - and I used to use them like that for sleeps as well... They are great for extra stuffing when you need it so definitely won't go to waste!

The peapods are definitely worth having a few of at $19.95 - I can't believe how cheap they are!

I can't say much more as I am selling nappies now, but am happy to help explain anything to do with the different systems now that I have got my head around them all! (Tho a few other ladies could explain all of it too!)

Deb I was using the Pam's ones, do some maths and you'll see you'll pay off years' supply in a few months . It will seem like a waste of flat cloths, you can still use them as liners but they are not as absorbent so I kind think they are better ditched altogether.

You can pay off FB (and presumably other brands) on a weekly/monthly basis so it will work out about the same as disposables until paid. And the peapods that Nikki posted somewhere look about the same as FB but lots cheaper, worth looking at.

It's a hard decision to make but if you are using cloth nappies on and off it may be worthwhile changing completely just for the benefit of a system which works well enough that you'll be happy to use. I found flat cloths so frustrating because they are so bulky for little absorbency.

Ok so I am starting to get more and more intrested in these nap's. However I have soooooo Many flat cloth Nappies seem's a waste not to use them. Plus money is really tight. I am having a little trouble finding over nap's to fit Alan. Any suggestion's? P.S. Meant to say... with microfibre as a stuffer, sometimes the moisture will come back through the microfleece as "compression wicking" (correct me if I am wrong cloth ladies!) as that particular fabric acts like a sponge... but also means that the moisture comes out easily as well... if you combine microfibre with cotton, hemp, or bamboo inserts, they lock in the moisture so that it doesn't come back through the microfleece. Make sense? Do you think that'll help?!?

Hmm... we change Erin just prior to every feed, unless we get a whiff of a stinky one and then we go and change straight away. I can't suggest anything super useful for the dampness, as I don't know if talc powder is compatible with clothies or not.

Oh ! How often do you change your baby in cloth naps?
I'm using pockets and having issues with Benjy getting damp between his legs. I've experimented with tucking the elastic in, using boosters, covers and overnaps to no avail. I change every two to three hours.

we only use Fuzzis so I'm not sure about the wonderoos, but when Caitlin is in between the snap sizes I tuck the elastic around the legs back into the nappy (when she is wearing it) I've never had a problem with leaking explosions LOL

I have a cloth question here. The other day I had Jack in cloth at night (a wonderoos one size pocket) I have never had a problem with leaks or anything before this and used it for months although I haven't used it for about a month or 2. Anyway he had runny poo explosion that went everywhere and when I took it off it hardly had kept any poo in it like most of the poo shot out the side. He had been sick a month before so I had him in huggies then and they seemed to hold the explosions way more. yeah true. water restrictions would make it harder.
im doing this more for my kids skin and to save money, and give us more room in our bin.
Once we get the nappies I will do Haleighs clothes on their own, but seen as we all ahve sensitive skin I jsut wash all our clothes together to save me time, plus Haleigh doesnt go through many clothes anymore, up until she was 5 months it was changing more than twice a day, Im jsut waiting for her to get into the play in the mud stage lol.

I think a lot of people think that cloth users will be preachy - like "look at me saving the environment as you kill it!" kinda thing, and say those things to make themslevs feel more justified in using disposables. I mean, each to their own! My Mum would never speak to me again if I used disposables full time - she is so anti! She's the one that really pushed me to use cloth with Maya (didn't hurt the budget either!)

I dont see what peoles problems are with cloth these days. I would prefer clothes to disposables, as I am useing disposables and they cost a fortune and cause extremly bad nappy rash on Haleigh.
Which is why we are switching to mummys otuch in the new year. Next bub will be in cloths full time.
When you look at how full your bin gets at the end of every week with disposables oyu know why so many mroe parents are switching to cloths, its amazing how much room they take up in your bin/ bag.

Sadly you will always get people who are negative towards cloth nappies...I got totally slammed by some people for planning on using them. It's just comments made by people who 9 times out of 10 have no idea what they are talking about so ignore them!!

I've got twins in cloth nappies and honestly if they were that much work I wouldn't bother! I just chuck the nappies out of the soak bucket into the machine, throw in the baby clothes and put them thru a wash cycle - and hey, I'd still have to do the same load even if I didn't have cloth nappies coz I've gotta wash the clothes anyway! Plus when my girls were in disposables the first couple of weeks they were going thru a box ($40 worth!) of Huggies a week!

Must admit tho that I have finally been semi-converted to modern cloth (after my SS on another site sent the girls a pocket nappy each) - yesterday I bought the girls 2 Happy Heiny pockets each, one lime and one yellow. And a friend has made them some rose pink covers with pockets as well. I figure pockets are best for us coz they make use of the flat cloths I already have.

Oh and I also bought Maya 3 of the Happy Heiny night trainer pockets - she is still a big night wetter nearly 2 years after she was day trained and those Dry Nites are blimmin expensive!

I don't really find it adds much to the washing anyway. The amount of times a smelly nappy spreads in reality or just in smell to the outer clothing, you gotta do all that washing anyway, just about. I wash her naps everyday so far. I have brought a couple of cute embroidered pocket naps which i will use aswell. Ill probably get another 6 next year sometime.

I am definately going cloth with this bubs and I have the hire kit piece of paper sitting on my desk here at work to remind me to pay the deposit (woops) and it has a nice picture of all the nappies in the kit and this lady comes up to me today and starts preaching at me about how I don't want to use cloth nappies and I should use disposables because who wants to spend all that time having to clean nappies etc etc etc. It was the first outright negative response I have had and I was REALLY annoyed about it but I was very proud of myself for maintaining my smile and not losing my cool. Jess it depends how often you want to wash them. If you are prepared to wash & dry daily, you'll need a day's worth (maybe 5-6 at Ella's age?) plus say 2. But if you want to give yourself a bit of room get two days' worth.

I have 8 for my DD age 1. Two of them are the next size up so she only wears them at nights. She goes through 3 or 4 in a day. Well atleast you can justify buying nappies for Haleigh even if she is close to TT because you can use them for the new one... I can't believe I am still buying nappies when Han only uses them when she sleeps I just keep chanting "resale value... resale value"

Our washing machine doesnt have hot water, so we soak the fuzzi's in nappisan, then put then in the washing machine just for the rinse cycle. I rinse them first, but bear in mind that we get just one pooey a day, mostly we just get wet ones now. So anyway I rinse first to get the muck out and then chuck the clothes in with them. I put the cycle on double rinse too (since I don't have a hot/warm water connection to my washing machine).

yep - we wash seperately too. Some people prefer to wash their nappies separately... or wash synthetics and natural fibres in separate washes... personally, I didn't really bother and threw everything in together.

Good on all you cloth mummies! Makes me feel guilty every time I see this thread lol.. but with Ella toilet training right now there is no point in buying any for her.. still like seeing all your bubs in their cute nappies though

I got my Mummy's Touch nappies today! Yay!!! (Thanks Amy ) They are soooooo cute and soft

It looks like they'd fit quite a wide range of sizes too. I have been playing around with the snaps, but I think I'm going to need to browse the website to figure out how to get the right snaps to fit the right size.

but you can reuse your small inserts as boosters for larger sizes, so you dont need to get as many of those

It depends when you start what sizes you'll need and thigh size of baby. Hannah has very chuby thighs and went from mediums to larges. She doesnt fit her petites well any more. Also SB, if you order while preggy and the size isnt right, they can be exchanged for the right size (unused of course )

Sarah Beth the sizings are all on that website too, it's a great starting point.

You will probably spend the same on a 6 or 12 pack of Fuzzis as you would on 6 months of disposables, varying of course on how many changes a day you do. After then you get free use for the rest of the time your Bub fits them and for probably two other kids after that.... or if you decide to have no more they have a great buy-back option too which really does mean you lose no money on them.

My DH was shocked at the price too - $30ea plus inserts etc - but it's heaps less than buying disposables, even for a year.

I think small and petite would do most kids at least to 3-4 years. There is a price list and also some sample packages to help you decide how many you need (i.e. how often you want to wash the naps).

We bought 24 and fo a newborn that coughed and poo'd and no one that doesn't poo but wee's for the olympics (sorry if tmi ) we found that was spot on. We'll order another 12 petites (total of 18) and HOPE Missy stays in them until potty training. Apparently after 9 months babies just get taller not wider.

Sarah Beth - If you do decide that you can't wait until your baby is here (*cough* miss impatient? who me? noooo *cough*) and buy your FBs whilst you still ahve 2 incomes (what we did)...

We ordered 24 smalls with inserts and doublers and 6 petites for later. Even though I certainly wasn't expecting a 9.7 baby she has still been in the smalls from birth and probably has about a month to go in them (poor love has her mother's thighs ) then she'll be in the petites.

I don't think I need to mention how many I have!! But seriously I've found 18 has been a great number and skip the washing for a day or so quite happily.
