You can get the different types of Lava Lamp, some of the ones with like 'sparkly' stuff in it warms up really fast so the light is a bit better a bit sooner. We have a blue sparkly one but we have been using a yellow one and just turning it on gives enough light. hehe I never thought about a lava lamp, I'd probably sit there for ages waiting for it to heat up so I could watch it that's actually a pretty good idea and they are pretty cheap. You can get soft tone 25 watt light bulbs, but you can also get dream baby night lights at the warehouse etc, about $7, that are light activated and turn on when it is dark. I used a black lightbulb! Like a uv light.. mum got us the touch lamps and we hadn't used them up tilli had ayja but have used them ever since.. one in our room and one in ayja's room, they are great cos i had it right down low when feeding ayja and could slowly bring it up when i went to change her bottom for more lighting, then off again when she went to bed, that was while she was little and in our room. She now has one in her room and it's just low enough to light her room a teeny bit, but dark enough for her to go to sleep. With Paris at her age we just had the halway door open and the hallway light on, but Ayja is tooo nosy and won't sleep if she sees the door open. I thought the ones mum got me looked icky (old lady flowery ones..) but they have worked really well. nice and cheap.. something like $5 - $10 each if that..

I don't like the idea of turning on the hallway light as that will blind me even more than my bedside lamp and DH would kill me cause it would shine directly on him (just the direction of door and bed etc) lol. Robyn my parents have those same lamps in their $4.5mil house in Sydney so not tacky at all

I have a Jolly Jumper baby monitor with a noise activated night light on it (comes on when bubs cries or if you talk etc.) and I just use that. I have a touch lamp with three settings, the bulb is 40W. But... if you have great night vision and once you get feeding established and all that you may not need a lamp all the time. Not sure what type you are looking for but we got some touch lamps from the warehouse, they are black shades and a brass type looking base (quite nice not tacky like they probably sound) anyway there are three different light levels so each time you touch it (which i might add is super handy for getting up to bubs in the night specially if you wear glasses like me) the light goes brighter. God knows what made me think of this last night but lying in bed I was thinking about lamps. The lamps we have in our bedroom are fine (25 watt bulbs, standard kinda lamp) but if I'm going to be getting up in the middle of the night, if I had a lamp like that one it's gonna blind me to death so i want something less powerful. Today while I was enjoying boxing day sales I couldn't find anything that wasn't as strong. Any ideas? or what do the rest of you do?
