should probably measure how tall she is though, the plunket nurse didnt do it at ehr 15months check.

Haleighs been walking since she was 9months but she has started running alot more since she was around 15months or so. McKayla shot up from the 50% to 75 for height. And she weighs 9kg on the dot. The nurse that we got on Saturday was extremely friendly. Told me to not worry seems she is eating heaps and she definately doesnt look underweight. Just really busy, active and happy and that is what they want.

Xanda has just had his 15mths plunket visit, even tho he is now 16 mths,
He is healthy and looking good the plunket nurse said.
He weighs 12.35kgs
He is 79cm tall/long

This was the first time we have seen this plunket lady as we have just moved, and I am not sure I like her, she kept refering to Xanda as she or her, and I kept saying he or him in reply. 12 months - 10.31kgs and 76cm in length

My son at 15mnths was 12.8kg, now just over 2 he is 15.2kg. He has always been on the 97th percentile. And has never looked big/fat, coz he has always had a small/skinny face, must just be the big bones.

I think weight and heights can vary greatly, depending on genetics and lifestyle etc. I wouldn't worry about weight unless it was an extreame case of obeisty or grossly under weight. Keep in mind that between 1 and 2 years of age, babies' growth slows down, so therefore their weight gain and height gain slows down as well -- I read somewhere that if they continued growing in the second year the way they did in the first year of life, they would be the size of a 5-year-old by the time they're 2. (Creepy!)

My baby just had a 12.5 month check and was 8.5kg. She's been growing along the 25th percentile for height and weight, and is proportionate. Her gain in height and weight has been steady. I'm blessed with a laid-back and approachable Plunket nurse, who says that as long as they're going up and not dropping weight, it's okay. I'm going to follow her advice and just not worry about it! And you go, girl, for breastfeeding -- I wish Em had continued past her first birthday. I'm jealous!

My dd was 7.58kgs on her first b/day and 8.65 at 15 months. Now at 20 months has just hit 10kg (wah hoo!!!)
Yep she's small but nobody ever said one thing about her being too small.
Hon, I would keep doing what you are doing, BF babies are known to be smaller and sounds like she is lovely and healthy

We just had Alan weighed at 2 and he was 12kg little on the light side so we have been told he needs to be reweighed and we need to start iotroducing toddler formula one a day to help. Well she havent really lost weight at all. And she is not walking. She is literally running. went to go take a walk in the forest and she insisted on walking on her own. She must have walked at least 3km.

So she is definately in my opinion a really really active girl with an apetite to match.

i just checked jack's plunket book and he was 9.39kgs at 14.5mths, so as the other ladies have said, stuff plunket just do what you are doing

As someone said plunket charts are based on formula fed babies and breastfed toddlers are a bit smaller as a whole anyway. Haleigh was jsut weighed today and she has lost a little weight, unsure why though as she eats heaps.

Zaara was of the same weight at birth (3.425KG) and she (at her last weigh in a month ago) was 11KG. She was 13.5 months. She is also very active and eats well. Zaara is also very lean looking! and is on Breast milk.

Well I have a chubber (with no chub on her anymore hehe) Haleigh is nearly 16 months old and weighs jsut under 14kg. But she had a head start from birth weighing just under 5kg and she never actually lost much weight after birth and is a steady weight gainer. Kids all grow at different rates. Like the other ladies said, if your daughter is eating, active and happy then there's probably nothing to worry about. She sounds just like my older boy - who eats enough to fuel his body and is too active to have anything left over to cover his visible ribs or anything like that!

For a quick comparison between different children, here's my kids:
Kiya: Birth - 3.54kg; 10 weeks - 5.6kg; 11 months - 8.4kg; 20 months - 10kg
Josiah: Birth - 3.2kg; 10 weeks - 4.5kg; 11 months - 7.6kg; 20 months - 9kg
Xavier: Birth - 4.02kg; 10 weeks - 7kg

I didn't read all these posts... sorry.. my daughter is being neglected today (well, more than usual)

I had a super-sized child (well... I didn't exactly think so) and Plunket "suggested" that I make sure Han is getting enough exercise. How do you STOP a toddler from running may I ask?!? So I was quite insulted. It seems you can't win.

So yeah, keep doing what you are doing! If she is active and happy then a big fat up yours to Plunket. Anyways, back to topic - Maya was exactly 8kg at her 1 year check up, and I just about had a party! She was 4kg born, then failed to thrive due to multiple allergies so by 9 mths was only 7kg. She was in the 97th for height and the 3rd for weight so looked like a lollipop - huge head on a skinny body. She ended up in hospital and the paed put her on a special formula and she started to grow, and I was so stoked that she finally hit the 8kg mark!

The point of the story is tho that she was on a very restricted diet and was very slow to grow but she's now nearly 4 (eek!) and 18kg which is average for her age, still in the 97th for height so quite tall and lean, but has definitely caught up. So I'm sure your little girl will too.

The docs really only start to worry about them when they start dropping across percentile lines, as long as they are growing at a steady rate it doesn't matter whether they are on the bottom of the charts or the top.

My girls are lightweights too. Ayja was only 2800gms when she was born, but grew really quickly until she had caught up and gained alot of weight int he first month, then plained off from there.. at last weigh at about 16 months she was 8.9kgs i think it was.. I would look at the overall picture. If her weight and height are steadily going upwards, don't worry too much. I found that my girls love to drink lots of water, they don't have as much milky drinks but have it on cereals, and lots of yogurts, cheese and dairy products.

Not all kids do the hugte growth spurts, some just grow steadily. I am intending to BF her until 2 years at least (or if she weans herself beforehand and then see from there. I rather give her mommy's milk than milk from another mammal.

She does have like about 20 ml now and then of milo made with cows milk as I dont have my Breastpump here (still in the container)

I guess you could start introducing a cup of cows' milk per day, since she's 13mos. Just before we left SA the pediatrician also told me her weight is a bit light but that the charts are based on Formula fed babies and around 7 months a BF baby wont pick up weight as fast as FF babies.

Charts are the same. She was a really petite girl at birth and looked real small but tall.But a really healthy weight of 3,42kg.

Never had problems of picking up weight but she does it slowly and is like super active. I suppose I was just slightly alarmed as I had it from her pediatrician and now from them as well.

I agree with you on the BF thing. Plunket have high milk standards anyway IMHO

Just a couple of thoughts...
How do the Plunket growth chart guidelines compare to other kids back in SAf?
Was she a premmie baby?
Has her weight gain been consistent for months or suddenly dropped?
Is her weight consistent with her height?

From looking at the photos you posted of her earlier, I must say that she just looks like a healthy, petite girl.

Hannah was my lightest 1yo, even so she was 8.74kg at 11mos with a length of 75cm. Hi Shirena,

I just looked up Ella's plunket records and at her 15 month check she was just 8.75 kilos.
They never suggested there was anything wrong with her weight so it is interesting that they are so concerned about McKayla.
Ella was/is a lot like your wee girl. Very very active and always eating (except her veges, grr!) so I think she just uses up everything that goes in. I'd guess its the same in your case too?
Good on you for sticking with the breastfeeding. Plunket are great, but their guidelines for weight etc are not gospel. You know your baby best, and you'd know if she were unhealthily underweight or unwell.

Abby is now two and only weighs 11 kg. Although she is definitely on the lighter side of the growth chart near the bottom three % neither plunket or our doctor are worried as she is only gaining slowly but is still gaining. I must admit to being a little worried but like your wee girl she is very active and eats lots, so I am not as concerned now.

Just checked her plunket book and she was only 8.7kg around the same age. Just go with your instinct is she was starving or missing something she surely wouldn't be as active. Just went for my first plunket visit and they are a bit concern about this weight (not much but they want to keep an eye on it)

She is 8,42kg at 13 and a half months. She never had fat on her and she is quite petite. Both hubby and me looks about the same in photos. (not that you will think that now of me at all. )

She is like really freaking active and have a healthy appetite on her. Not that worried more a bit peeved and curious.

They want me to put her on a high density milk. (something called pedisure of something like that). Not intending to do that as I am still BF and that is only milk she gets and will get.
