Like Rach said 13 months is the average- so a few months either side is completely normal. I walked at 8 1/2 months and DH walked at 18 months- DD walked at 10 1/2 months.

I find it so interesting how every single child is so different.

Tyrell crawled at 6 months and was walking round the furniture at 9 months and is now crusing along on his own more often than not.
I was walking and toilet trained at 13months....I hold out high hopes for my boy LOL

Joshie isn't walking yet, but takes steps very occasionally and cruises round the room constantly(using the furniture). that's interesting because I used to worry that Caitlin was standing up too early (she was pulling herself up at 6mths) and wondered if she could do damage to her ankles/knees. But in saying that I remember our Plunket Nurse telling us that the muscles develop from the top down so if she CAN stand, she was ready too or else her muscles wouldn't support her.

A bit OT - my DP walked at 9 months and he was a really fat baby I mean really fat and he actually hurt his knees (or hips I can't quite remember what MIL said) because he couldn't support his weight and it took a few years to come right. My nephew *just* started walking, and he is 15.5 months. Emma Rose is 14.5 months and she is standing and cruising on the furniture, but not walking on her own yet. One of my brothers walked at 8 months, the other not until 16 months, and I think I was somewhere around a year. Some kids work on their physical skills, and others work on things like verbal skills, and still others try to work on both at once, so their rates of development can really vary. You can't really compare kids when it comes to milestones like walking, because "normal" is such a personal, subjective thing dependent on so many factors.

13 months is the average but remember for every kid that walks before this there is one that walks after. I think they get checked up if they aren't walking at 18 months just to make sure theres nothing wrong but lots of normal kids would walk after this.

Zaara crawled the day she was 9 months. Was walking around furniture at 11 months and walked properly at 13 months (did few steps between 11-12 months). Like every one has said, each child is different. I walked at 10m and my brother at 8m...

My MIL use to say some thing is wrong with Zaara since she wasnt walking!! Go see a Doctor....ARRGGG

Kiya crawled at just under 7 months, started pulling herself up on the furniture a week later at exactly 7 months and started walking at 8.5 months.

Josiah crawled at 7 months and started walking at 9.5 months.

Xavier is commando-crawling all over the place at 5.5 months and I think he'll be crawling properly by the time he's 6 months.

Connor's crawling at 6 months - I think he'll be an early walker because he wants to catch up with the terrortot. It's a PAIN.

God it was a pain!!!
I wish i had put velcro on his pants to slow him down.

but was also crawling at 4months.
hoping james will be slow so i can hang on to his baby months for longer.

jack didn't CRAWL until 13mths and walked at 18mths! until he was crawling he was happy rolling about everywhere

9 months is really early to start walking. Matthew started walking just a few days before his first birthday & I actually thought that was reasonably early.

my son didnt move around at all!! he never crawled or anything so everyone would say that he was very slow but one day when he was 10months old he was sitting next to the couch and he just pulled himself up and walked!!!

Jake was 10 m,onths taking a first step, BUT about a year before he walking about confidently. Taine took first steps at a year and was off! 11 months is definitely not too early, but must admit that when baby reaches other milestones quickly (i.e. crawling) everybody seems to assume they will reach the others too. I think 12-18mos is "normal", 9 mos is jolly early! Both my girls were walking at 12 1/2 mos, but Hannah crawled at 10mos and Briona crawled at 5 mos. No definately not!!!! If Ben was walkign at 11 months he would be an early walker not average. Kobe walked at 13mths and lots of people thought that was reasonably early. My neice didnt walk till 18mths and that was still considered in the normal walking age range.

When did your guys bubbas start walking.

My family are saying Ben is a bit slow as hes not into walking at 11mths, he was such an early crawler and seems to be happy getting around at the speed of light like that rather than learning to walk!
