I'm convinced Jack wasn't getting a whole heap of milk and when we stopped he wasn't interested in milk from a cup. I eventually started putting a wee bit of choc milk in with the cows milk to get him to take it and then slowly taking the choc out.

Now at 17 months he has around 600ml but would have more if i let him.

I agree with the others, drop the feeds slowly and try to get him drinking from a cup. It will also help with engorgement as well.

He is in age, but that's still a lot of feeds he's having. You should be able to get down to 2-3 bf per day and the rest is food and water. Then replace his "breakfast" and "night" feeds with milk.

(Edited to change feeding to weaning.)

Edited by busymum

Prior to that though we'd dropped a few breast feeds & were down to about 2 or 3 a day, so it was a bit easier for me in that sense. Does your son feed for long periods at each feed? Maybe you could try dropping say the 10am feed & offering water & a snack instead? I think by the age of 1 they're meant to be getting most of their nutrition from food, so you don't want to fill him up with too much milk. If it was me, I would probably just start gradually dropping a BF & replacing with water & leaving the 8am, 3pm & 8pm breastfeeds until last & then gradually replacing them with milk & see how you go.

My husband said to me that he thinks then that jake will be having to much milk.

my feeds goes -

8am - B/Feed and soilds
10am - B/feed
midday - B/feed and soilds
3pm - B/feed
6pm - B/feed and soilds
8pm - B/feed and bed

so i know it will be a lot of milk but thats how i do it now so i just thought it would be the same when i change it to milk?

And thoughts would help

Thanks so much
