oops I meant I don't think he is ready for weaning. We weaned at 13 months and by then we had cut it down to one side once a day. I'm convinced Jack wasn't getting a whole heap of milk and when we stopped he wasn't interested in milk from a cup. I eventually started putting a wee bit of choc milk in with the cows milk to get him to take it and then slowly taking the choc out.

Now at 17 months he has around 600ml but would have more if i let him.

I agree with the others, drop the feeds slowly and try to get him drinking from a cup. i would agree with nic...see if you can drop some feeds first or just give milk in a cup with his lunch...and prob the 10am and 3pm would be easiest to drop first.

I don't think he's quite ready for weaning. He is in age, but that's still a lot of feeds he's having. You should be able to get down to 2-3 bf per day and the rest is food and water. Then replace his "breakfast" and "night" feeds with milk.

He is sometimes hard to judge as in the feeding part as sometimes he will drink for 30mins ish and sometimes only 5 mins.

I started weaning to milk when Matt was about 13 months. Prior to that though we'd dropped a few breast feeds & were down to about 2 or 3 a day, so it was a bit easier for me in that sense. Does your son feed for long periods at each feed? Maybe you could try dropping say the 10am feed & offering water & a snack instead? I think by the age of 1 they're meant to be getting most of their nutrition from food, so you don't want to fill him up with too much milk. hi all long time no talk

anyway iv got a question i want to start weaning my son off my breast on the 26th of this month which means he will be one year and one day old.
I always thought that when i do it i would just change my breast feeds to just cows milk, one at a time and only change one a week. My husband said to me that he thinks then that jake will be having to much milk.

my feeds goes -

8am - B/Feed and soilds
10am - B/feed
midday - B/feed and soilds
3pm - B/feed
6pm - B/feed and soilds
8pm - B/feed and bed

so i know it will be a lot of milk but thats how i do it now so i just thought it would be the same when i change it to milk?

And thoughts would help
