we changed paris's over to her green ones after a year, and have taken them out a few times to give them a really good clean, but otherwise not too much swapping and taking out. Ayja i was trying to persuade into getting blue or purple to be different from her sister, but she wanted pink, everything pink, darn it she's turning into a girly girl too! I think Ayja being so good about getting them cleaned has been great cos it's making paris want hers done too, which i am happy about.

Here's some pics finally, taken at my sisters and this evening when both the girls were playing sillies... (and had to add a couple taken of ayja a few days ago before our trip.. i can't beleive her hair is going like paris's.. it's taken it's sweet time, but so cute.)

We got Zaara's done few months back...she was really good about it. Hates me cleaning it...but never play with he ears. It healed up fast and it looking great.

Well, they are done.
We went off up to Hamilton, had a good day and she got them done with pink earings the same as her sister had hers done with. She cried for a couple of minutes and looked at me as if i was the most horrible mummy in the world, went to my sister for a cuddle them promtply back to me. Once she got her lollies she forgot about them. So far she is WONDERFUL sits and lets me clean them, is so proud of them and has not touched them.
Will post pics soon, the only ones we have are on mikes cell phone for now.

Went to the teddie shop, decided to go back on the way to getting ears done after lunch.. of course i get back there and the ONE bear that i had chosen to get, had been bought while i was having lunch. So, and this is so not me.. i bought none for myself at all. There were none that stuck out as being near as cool as that one. The girls chose one each though. That is the same with me, I've had about 6? piercings in my ears now, up the top as well and they all got really infected. Even with the one hole in each ear I've got left, I can only wear stirling silver or gold or I get really sore and itchy ears, which then get infected.. DH and I decided 14- I always remember that Michael Hill ad where the girl counts down the days to her 14th birthday and then she gets her ears pierced. I like the idea of it being something they look forward to- like the others have said, a mother/daughter rite of passage type thing. It's funny... I posted in this on Wednesday, and Kiya came home from school with felt on her earlobes. She'd gotten one of her girlfriends to draw on earrings! When I asked her about it, she asked when she could get her ears done "for real, Mummy!"

When I told her that she couldn't get them done until she was 13, Kiya told me that her friend (the one who drew the earring blobs on) got them done when she was 3. I told Kiya a little about how new piercings need to be looked after, and what is involved, and explained that we'd decided that 13 was old enough for her to be able to look after it all herself. Kiya thought about that for a moment, then asked me if I thought her friend's mum had helped her friend to look after her ears when they were first pierced. I agreed that she had, and Kiya said "Okay, Mummy. I'll wait until I'm big enough to do it myself"

I didn't get my ears pierced until I was probably about 11 or 12 and never asked for it until then. So I guess I don't see any reason to do it for Alyssa right now. I got both my girls ears done when they were 5mths old. My were done at the same age (back in the day lol). They have never fiddled with them, never had them get infected or taken earrings out  etc. They were done really quick and all over and done with in 5mins, the girls werent grizzly, unsettled or anything afterwards and Mercedes didnt even shed a tear. Lesieli cried then stopped as soon as it was over because there was too much to look at in the chemist. I had my daughters done for her 10th birthday. In a world where everything is so instant and little girls clothes mimic big girls clothes, I wanted her to have to wait for them. I thought 10 was a pretty significant age so thats what I told her when she started asking at about 4yrs old. I had to wait till I was 11 and I remember it being a real special occasion :-)

I was about 7 I think when I got mine done and Mum made a big deal of it, we went into the City (London) for lunch and shopping too.

I think it's also a "rite of passage"/ growing up thing so would rather leave it until she is old enough for the responsibility of keeping them clean and realising that it is a special thing.

I couldn't imagine Caitlin with earrings!!!

I was 6 when I got mine done after harping on about getting them done when we were away on holiday up at the lake. If I have a girl then I would consider getting them done around the same age. YAY go Trendz, they are really good!!

They secret to keeping piercing from getting infected is cleanliness. Cleaning 3 times a day with tea-tree solution & definitely NO fingers touching it & spreading germs. I use betadine (that brown stuff) when my piercings are looking red & infected.

I react to budget metals & can only wear surgical steel or gold or silver. There are so many cute body jewels out there these days. I wish I had a lil girl sometimes.

I haven't got my girls' done, in fact I haven't even got mine done. (I was always afraid of the pain of the needle, now that I've had a c/s, episiotomy and VB tear, I think I'll be fine! ) I'll be getting the girls to wait until they are about 13 too... that's if they are interested. we got xanthes ears pierced just before easter this year, so 3 1/4? we talked her through it for weeks before, and explained it might hurt for a moment, and it might be loud getting them done (i dont know, cant remember lol) and she wouldnt be able to touch them for a while, and would have to let me clean them etc... and then i would ask did she still want them? she always did, so we eventually did do it. no regrets here, she never touched them once, they healed beautifully, and she is hoping for some barbie earrings for xmas.

I have a boy so can't give my personal experience.
My mum had my ears done when I was a baby, (before I was 1) now that is going back quite a few years.

Hey there glow - that's where we got Paris's ones done, trendz, they were so nice to her, and we got her a special bear to remember the day too.. i collect beanie bears, which the mall by trendz has a shop that sells.. oooh gonna have to fight myself to stay away from there! lol, but imagine we'll do the same for Ayja.

It's interesting because Paris goes to Ayja "oh, it will hurt a lot lot lot, but it's ok cos it gets better" now ayjas going round going "it might hurt me little lots" we'll see. I was going to hunt out some Emla cream to stick a little on each ear to numb it for her a bit better. I might actually do that (is it bad i didn't think of that for Paris.. however hers were kinda unplanned)

In answer to your question Mel, nope, she didn't play with them, she wouldn't let anyone touch them for a good while.. which was good for at daycare, but not so good when it came to trying to clean em, but she's great now with letting me take them out to clean and put new ones in, she only has 2 pair at the mo, so we swap em around, she would like some of the cute ones we have seen but i am always worried about the quality of the silver etc used for most of the cute costume jewellery ones so only stick to the little pharmacy standard piercing ones..

I'll be waiting till Addison is older. I want it to be almost like a rite of passage thing, a mother daughter thing we do and something that she looks forward to.
On another forum there was a big fight about a lady who got her 3 month old baby BOYs ear pierced!

Kiya (and any other future daughters) won't get their ears pierced until 13yo. It's not something I'd do, as I can just imagine Ella fiddling with them all the time. I had mine done at 8, and I'll wait until around that age for Ella too.. Ive got boys so their ears ain't pierced lol.
But i thought i'd say i got my 1st piercing done when i was about 2. I remember screaming down the street in my pram afterwards coz i wanted an ice block Mum had promised me after it was done. Crazy things you remember aye?

Where abouts in Hams are you getting Ayja's done? Most of my piercing (ITS an addiction of mine to put holes in my body) Ive had done at Trendz in Garden Place. Ella has been asking me if she can have earrings a bit lately, and I'm feeling a bit funny about it.
I'm not opposed to her actually having earrings, but I just feel sooky-la about my little girl getting holes punched in her!
I don't think there are many places round here that will do them for litlies either...
Did Paris fiddle with hers much? Hey there ladies, just thought i'd start this for interest's sake.. do your kiddies have their ears pierced, if so what age did they get them done.

We got Paris's done at age 2 and a half cos she was asking us to get em done heaps, and we were gonna do it for her 3rd birthday but went to hamilton and got them done whilst there as the only place in palmy that will do them at that age i did not feel was as trustworthy as the place in hamilton.

Anyway.. Ayja is now asking for them, and we are going up to hamilton this week anyway so have decided to get hers done.
