Ride-On Carry-On
If you do a lot of long-haul travelling with a toddler, the Ride-On Carry-On is an interesting new product that converts your carry-on luggage into a travel stroller, eliminating the need to haul an umbrella stroller around the airport along with your carry-on luggage. Essentially it's a lawn chair-type seat (without the back legs) with straps that hook around your carry-on's telescoping handle and the middle of the bag. It then folds flat to store in your carry-on or into the overhead luggage bin on the plane. The headrest is detachable and doubles as a tray table. Suitable for children from around 8 months of age, it can handle up to 23kg in weight.
We found the product reasonably easy to use, although the one tricky bit occurs when unfolding for use, as it's essential to get the locking mechanism into the right position to make sure the chair doesn't collapse when seated on. It's made from polyester, which is able to be
washed easily (if it got really grotty, we'd probably take it outside and hose it down). It fits carry-ons 45cm to 56cm with flat sides, so isn't going to work if your carry-on is a duffle-type bag. It's very lightweight -- around 2.5kg -- so won't take up too much of your carry-on luggage allowance. We're told it's even narrow enough to keep your child in it and pull your carry-on right down the jet bridge and the aisle of the plane, directly to your seat. It certainly goes a way toward keeping your little one from running off in the airport or when you're waiting in queues.
The price -- $90 from www.rideoncarryon.co.nz -- is comparable to a mid-range umbrella stroller, and if you're planning to do a lot of overseas travel or if you travel long-haul and end up trekking with a toddler through airports during layovers, we think it's a very good idea.

10/11/2015 -I have had my ride on now for 6 years and have been using it now for my 4 year old. My 7 year old still likes to sit in it while her brother is not using it. Its the best thing i have ever bought and i travel a lot.

22/07/2015 -Brought one of these for our first child when 8 months old, now using it for our second. Found it to be a real life saver, I'm a big fan. Makes from check in to getting on the plane easy. My little guy gets too heavy to carry, and he walks to slow getting through the airport this is brilliant. I use a trunki for my older child now he's too big for the seat, but my 1.5 yr old doesn't have the balance to be pulled along on a trunki, this really is an awesome option.

05/05/2013 -I've just used this with my 15 month old son for an international trip which included transit between two terminals to catch the second flight. I was on my own with him, and he's just started walking and is a very busy little man. I found this fantastic as I didn't have to carry him all the time, and could keep him happily contained as I moved about, stood in queues etc. I used it to carry him all the way onto the plane and it was easy. He really enjoyed travelling in it. The only con was that you have to take the seat off the bag to get into it, but it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. I disagree re the Trunki: a kid this little is not going to be co-ordinated enough to ride safely on the Trunki whilst you drag them through the airport.

19/03/2012 -I have been using this with my daughter who is perfectly healthy and it is fantastic. I have used it since she was 8 months old and now she is 3 and a half. We use it all the time when we travel and it is really an awesome product. I dont have to carry her when she is tired of walking and she enjoys me pulling her as all she does is sit there. When i am waiting for my bags to turn up from the baggage claim, she sits quietly eating off her tray table. I really like this product as i know she wont be running around.

26/04/2011 -Seen this irl, and to be honest would rather spend the money on a Trunki. These really are a deck chair strapped to a suitcase with an attached tray. Looks like the child is of special needs when riding in it.
