Ecostore is currently reformulating their stain remover, but we love their products so much, we thought we’d give their Oxygen Whitener a go while we wait. It has no nasty chemicals, and uses plant-based surfectants, simple mineral salts, and essential plant oils. Highly biodegradeable with earth-safe ingredients. Also made in New Zealand, Green Tick Sustainable Certiied, GE free, and not tested on animals. Tricky bits: Suitable for whitening and brightening most fabrics and ideal for soaking, it can also be added to a machine wash. Just be careful to get the quantities right — the instructions recommend dissolving 2tbsp in a bucket (7L) of warm water, or adding 1-2tbsp in with your dissolved laundry powder. It’s super-concentrated, so go easy. Worked well on: Of the three stain removers we tried, it did the best job on mould, signiicantly fading mould spots on a bib over two wash cycles. It also removed blue fingerpaint from a white shirt. Tomato sauce was gone, as was mashed banana and apple purée. Chocolate needed a little bit more soaking, but mud came out easily. Bottom line: Great on more stubborn stains that need a good soak before they’ll budge. We’d highly recommend this for soaking nappies and soiled bed linens. It also worked well in a front-loader washing machine along with Ecostore washing powder. It’s so concentrated that it’s really good value.
