Good bits: The Avent is a basic monitor. Honestly, you barely need to read the manual to work it. There are lullabies, there's talk-back and temperature monitoring. And the mobile parent unit has the choice of a belt clip or, if you prefer, a neck cord.

You can set the monitor to "eco mode" to save on the power bill - which works when baby's bedroom is close to Mum and Dad's room and the signal doesn't need to transmit too far.
It has a long range of up to 330 metres, but the manufacturer promises that the digital signal won't be picked up by monitors in neighbouring homes.
Tricky bits: As you turn the volume up and down on the parent unit, you can be struck by ear-piercing beeping!
Also, I found it hard to work the monitor during the night, because the control buttons aren't back-lit.
The music is quite twangy and the night light on the baby unit is rather dull.
Bottom line: This is a standard, no frills monitor, but due to the ease of use, I'm not surprised it rated so well in last year's OHbaby! Awards.

17/09/2013 -I purchased this monitor from the baby show and have been using in for almost a month now, it's great really clear sound, sensitive to babies noises but only picks up what you want to hear not other noises around the house i love that i know what the temp is in his room and the song it palys are a added bonus
